The vineyard vacay is on the rise. Some of the best luxury accommodation in Sussex can be found in the region’s diverse wine estates, so if you’d like to enjoy an afternoon, an evening or a whole weekend at a vineyard without having to think about the taxi home, then read on for some of the best places to spend a night amongst the vines.

Once you experience Sussex wine country you’ll never want to leave. And luckily, you don’t have to. A growing number of Sussex vineyards also offer overnight accommodation for guests who’d prefer to linger on, ranging from glamping tipis to luxurious lodges and even a hobbit house. Rathfinny Wine Estate 

With its romantic vineyards rolling down towards the sea, various catering options and wine-tasting tours and events, Rathfinny Wine Estate is an all-in-one destination for a wine tasting trip to Sussex. After a day exploring the vines and award-winning sparkling wines, visitors to the estate can flop down in one of 10 beautifully-appointed guestrooms, in the lovingly restored historic Flint Barns B&B at the western end of the estate.

Ashling Park Estate

Located just outside of Chichester, near Chichester Festival Theatre and Pallant House Gallery, this sleek wine estate is a haven of tranquillity in West Sussex. With a fine-dining restaurant overlooking the vines, tours and tastings and even its own gin lab, there are plenty of excuses to while away an entire day at Ashling Park. And with the keys to your own luxurious self-catering lodge – designed by Will Hardie of Channel 4’s Amazing Spaces no less –  you can make an entire weekend of it.

Oastbrook Estate 

Situated in rolling Sussex hills in the heart of the High Weald, the idyllic Oastbrook Estate produces highly regarded still and sparkling wines from its young vineyard. Take a relaxed vineyard tour with winemakers America and Nick, explore the bucolic surroundings, and then stay overnight in a choice of luxurious accommodation options which include luxury bell tents, a lakeside lodge and even a one-of-a-kind vineyard hollow.

Tinwood Estate

At this luxurious wine estate near the cathedral city of Chichester, guests can book one of several luxury lodges at the edge of the vineyard, complete with jacuzzi, private terrace and use of the beautiful barrel sauna. The lodges are just steps away from the estate’s pristine restaurant and tasting room, or if you prefer to explore further afield then you’re in prime position to explore the cultural delights of Chichester, the sandy beaches of the Witterings or the glorious Sussex countryside.

Oxney Organic Estate

Located at the heart of the High Weald AONB, Oxney Organic Estate is the largest single estate organic vineyard in the UK, forming part of an 850 acre organic family farming estate. Producing beautifully expressive English sparkling and still wine, the laid back estate offers vineyard tours, wine tastings, relaxed picnic lunches and other ways to experience the  Oxney terroir. At the end of the day, guests can snuggle down in a charming cottage, converted barns or cosy shepherd’s hut, surrounded by Oxney’s scenic vineyards and the rolling hills of the High Weald.

Tillingham 

Set amongst 70 acres of rolling hills and woodlands with far reaching views over Rye, Romney Marsh and the English Channel, the 13th century Tillingham is home to vineyards, fruit trees, ancient woodland and livestock, a winery and restaurant, and eleven delightful B&B rooms in a converted hop barn for guests who want to linger on. As well as the rooms, summer visitors can opt for a luxury bell tent within the grounds – complete with king size bed, log burner, your own fire pit and outdoor loo with a view.
