Holidaying from Home: A Sussex Adventure

Sussex Modern Stories  |  5 minutes read

Hello everyone! Welcome to my guest post with Sussex Modern. I'm Lareese, a content creator from Brighton, East Sussex.

In partnership with Sussex Modern, I was recently invited to explore the beautiful Sussex countryside and be a tourist in my own county for the weekend. I’ve curated a short photo edit of our adventure, from picnicking in the breath-taking vineyard at Rathfinny Wine Estate to soaking up the iconic early works of David Hockney & Alan Davie at Towner Eastbourne.

If this year has taught us anything, it’s that a staycation when done right can absolutely match a far-flung holiday. This weekend was a welcome opportunity to get back to nature and immerse myself in the art, landscape and wine that characterises this wonderful county.

Sussex has played home to many artists, writers, designers, wine makers & dreamers over the years and its artistic endeavour and independent magic is still very much alive today.

I hope you enjoy this brief foray into visual storytelling, and that it inspires you to curate your own unique visit with Sussex Modern, too.

“Even someone like me, who admittedly doesn’t profess to know a great deal about art, can enjoy the visual feast of an art gallery.”

“Ridgeview Winery – the perfect spot for whiling away the hours. Life is pretty peachy with a glass of Bloomsbury in one hand & a slice of Mushroom & Truffle Oil pizza from Tin Roof Pizza in the other.”

“Brighton is a wonderful place to live but escaping to the countryside is like tonic for the soul. Sussex, you’re a keeper.”

Chalkland butterflies

Many unusual butterflies haunt the sheep-grazed chalkland of the South Downs. One, the stunning Adonis Blue, is bright azure in the male and chestnut brown in the female. They love steep, south-facing downland slopes.
