Things are looking up on the downs as stargazers across Sussex turn their eyes to the heavens for February’s Dark Skies Festival. This two-week celebration of all things celestial takes you on a journey to the moon and planets, there’s a Facebook Live session and even an astrophotography masterclass. Back down on terra firma, the local wildlife gets a look in as well as we find out which animals come out to play in the dark.

Established for more than half a century, Bolney is a true pioneer of English wine.
Landscape  
This downland nature reserve sits on the fringes of the county town of Lewes. The Iron Age hill fort of Mount Caburn can be accessed from here and is a 15-minute walk up from Glynde village. It has beautiful views out to the sea.
