Battle Festival of Arts and Music

The Sussex festival with its roots firmly in the community

Battle Festival has become a firm fixture in the South East England’s cultural calendar over the last decade. World class performances are staged every July and August encompassing opera, author events, piano recitals, jazz, film, visual arts and theatre. The festival is eclectic in every sense of the word, and performances are staged in iconic historical settings. Always with the community at its heart,  its aims are to develop and nurture talent, particularly with young people. The festival holds its traditional opening in the grounds of Battle Abbey, and proudly supports perhaps the best scarecrow competition in England.

Bumblebees

Out of 50 different species of bee recorded in Sussex, bumblebees are some of the most familiar. They all do a useful job in pollinating orchards and farmland crops. Although grape vines are self-pollinating the bees work the surrounding landscape to the benefit of the vineyards.
